Inffective Bilingual, Dual Language as the Solution
According to the latest research results, the system of
bilingual education in Indonesia as long as it is less effective, because it
ignores the Indonesian Language. Its impact will be felt when the child goes
into a higher level of education. Dr. David Freeman, Professor of Curriculum
and Instruction, and Dr. Yvonne Freeman, Professor of Bilingual Education from
the United States, reveals the results of his research on bilingual education,
which put more emphasis on the use of foreign languages in school. According to
Freeman's mastery of a foreign language is important, but not to ignore the
first language or mother tongue children, in this case the Indonesian Language.
It is delivered by the husband-wife of Freeman in the
seminar organized by the school of High/Scope Indonesia regarding ' Dual
Language, Theory and Effective Program ', Wednesday, 13rd May. This Seminar was
held in order to commemorate National Education Day. In the seminar also
explained the results of research of Thomas Collier 1997 against students in
the United States. Children education initially using the first language
(English Language) have a higher academic level compared with other children
who initially used a foreign language education (Spain).Realizing the
importance of first language in addition to the language of the United Kingdom,
the Dual Language program is regarded as the solution of problems faced by
children will be academic in his future. Dual Language Program refers to the
program additive, namely aligning the first use of language and a foreign
language.
It is closely connected with the formation of the concept
of the early academic children. Children who have a strong academic concepts in
his first language, can have a good academic ability in a foreign language. But
in contrast, children who are not strong in his first academic concepts, nor they
have strong academic skills in both languages. It's still linked with research

first school in Indonesia using the Dual Language program. According to
Antarina, this program has been carried out over the past two years, but the
result is still yet to be seen. "Most schools are trying to run this
